THE RENOVATION AND THE OLD WALLS
Respecting the original spaces, the restoration of Hotel Sopra le Mura
The Hotel Sopra le Mura is the result of the skilful renovation of a period building, which dates back to 1600, located at the entrance to the historic bastion wall, commissioned by Duke Pietro de Luna, 1580 circa, to defend the town and the Castello a Mare (Castrum ad Mare de Gulfo).
Inside the structure, past and present, tradition and modernity coexist. The materials used in the renovation phase, such as lime plaster, paving stones, iron, majolica and the choice of furnishings, have been carefully selected to reaffirm the historic-traditional Sicilian identity of the building. You will appreciate the exposed wooden beams, the majolica tiles in the bathrooms, the solid stone of some walls, the original stone balconies with decorated columns, to which the most modern comforts and services guaranteed by the quality of a Boutique Hotel have been adapted.
In fact, the conservative renovation work has managed to preserve a charm from times long ago; especially at dusk, when the lights on the façade come on of the restored building and the harbour reflects the colours of the city, a magical atmosphere is guaranteed.
